Drivers on London's Jubilee line will strike over new timetables next month

TUBE staff on the Jubilee line are to strike next month over new timetabling, their union announced today.

Drivers belonging to the RMT union will walk out on June 6 and June 14, claiming that new timetables “ride roughshod” over agreed rotas.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash called it “outrageous” that managers on the Underground were trying to “bulldoze through timetable changes” without proper consultation.

Condemning management culture as “out of control,” Mr Cash claimed that the dispute showed that managers were “hell bent” on imposing change through “diktat” rather than negotiation.

He said: "Drivers are angry at the impact on work-life balance and rightly see this move as the thin end of a very long wedge that could see processes and agreements unilaterally shredded by Tube bosses.”

London Underground director of network operations Nigel Holness defended the new Jubilee line timetable, and said he wanted the RMT to work constructively with employers.

Members of fellow union Aslef will also be striking on the same days.

Aslef official Finn Brennan said new rosters increased the number of Saturday shifts drivers were required to work.

He added that it broke a commitment made as part of the 2015/16 pay agreement to maintain the same percentage of weekend rest days as the service expands.

"Despite the rhetoric from City Hall about wanting to work with trade unions to avoid conflict, senior management at LU have ignored every offer to sit down and discuss this issue with us over the last months," Mr Brennan said.

"The responsibility for the disruption these strikes will cause rests squarely with them."

Aslef members on parts of the District line will strike on the same dates in a separate dispute.
