Virtual Resistance August 1-7

AS THE lockdown eases we’re seeing people cautiously move away from their keyboards and return to the streets.

That’s why this week’s events round-up is a little less virtual than normal.

The most important events coming up are hosted by CND and Stop the War for the 75th anniversary of the Hiroshima bomb with a programme of talks, vigils and performances hearing from survivors of the massacre.

Saturday August 1

At 9am anti-racism protesters are planning to shut down Brixton in south London, for this year’s African Emancipation Day Reparations March on August 1.

A coalition of groups is demanding the government to establish an all-party parliamentary commission of inquiry for truth and reparatory justice and commit to reparations, including tackling the climate emergency which predominantly affects those in the global south.

To find out more see mstar.link/EmancipationDay.

CND is hosting a commemorative programme marking 75 years since Hiroshima and Nagasaki — starting today with a webinar on radiation and women’s health at 4.30pm.

Local vigils and commemorations are also taking place across the country during the week, as well as livestreams of performances featuring survivors of the atomic bombs.
