Guerilla projectionists call on Khan to intervene in Earl's Court Masterplan

Concerned residents and local business owners are calling on the London Mayor to listen to the west London community and to intervene in the Masterplan so homes and employment can be generated

GUERILLA projectionists held a “Live from Earl’s Court” show to shine a light on London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s exclusion of the local community on the Earls Court Masterplan.

The show projected a series of S.O.S messages along with black and white film clips featuring Earls Court’s past as a double Olympic venue on Friday night.

Save Earls Court Supporters Club, made up of concerned residents and local business owners, is calling on Mr Khan to listen to the west London community and to intervene in the Masterplan so homes and employment can be generated.

A spokesperson said: “Mayor Khan must listen. He has an opportunity to ditch the current Earl’s Court Masterplan and create a green and sustainable future for all of us.”

An intervention in the future of the “faltering” joint venture between Transport for London and property firm Capco, was also called for.

Capco has recently disclosed that it is in talks with the Hong Kong billionaire owner of CK Asset Holdings to sell on the Earls Court Masterplan with no community input to its future.

The company has spent over a decade preparing Earls Court for development and construction is already under way on about 800 homes at Lillie Square.

Campaigners are demanding that “the world’s greenest venue” and “homes for all” be built on the site of the former Earls Court Exhibition Centre to bring back “the beating heart” of the community “for a green and transparent future.”

Eyewitness to the show Bella Hardwick said: “We want a future here that can be enjoyed by Earls Court and wider community regardless of income.”
