BUS drivers in Manchester staged a 24-hour strike yesterday in a long-running dispute over pay parity.
Members of the Unite union at the First Bus depot in the Rusholme area of the city say they are paid £5,000 a year less than drivers at another First Bus depot five miles away.
Around 70 drivers went on strike and picketed the depot from early yesterday.
The strike is the latest of a series of a dozen in a dispute stretching back to October with its roots four years ago when First Bus took over another operator.
Unite called the pay disparity a “glaring and unjust anomaly.”
The drivers voted by 96 per cent for strike action.
