THE second International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left Parties and Movements wound up in Havana, Cuba, on Wednesday with a commitment to work together to confront the right-wing media offensive.
The meeting of delegates from 37 countries agreed a plan to engage in the battle of ideas and to develop a network that promotes the diversity of digital and physical publications.
Enrique Ubieta Gomez, director of the magazine Cuba Socialista, and co-ordinator of the event, said in his closing remarks that it was important to confront “cultural colonialism” and to meet the challenges “faced by left-wing youth in times of neofascism.”
Mr Ubieta said that the call from the meeting was for “unity in the face of major global problems, for the unity of the oppressed, which is strengthened by the diversity and plurality of leftist movements and participation and criticism to find the necessary paths.”
The meeting identified the need to defend revolutionary theory, through concerted and permanent action.
Delegates also agreed a declaration of support for the people of Palestine in the face of “the genocidal attack” being carried out by the Israeli government.
European Parliament member Manu Pineda told the meeting that Israel committed “all possible war crimes with the sponsorship of the United States.”
