Men's Cricket Jamshed slapped with 10-year ban for spot-fixing

FORMER Pakistan batsman Nasir Jamshed was handed a 10-year ban from all cricket today after being found guilty of spot-fixing.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Tribunal was investigating the spot-fixing row during the Pakistan Super League 2016-17 season.

Jamshed, who played in 48 one-day internationals as well as 18 T20 games and two Test matches, had already been given a one-year suspension for not co-operating with the PCB probe last year.

Speaking after the verdict was announced, PCB legal adviser Taffazul Rizvi told reporters in Lahore multiple charges against the 28-year-old had been proven.

“There are some cases which don’t make you happy despite you winning it. This is one such, because a player has destroyed his career due to spot-fixing and failure to report approaches,” Rizvi said.

“Our stance from the first day was he was the linchpin and he is the one who recruited players. Even if he returns after rehabilitation, he is not allowed to be engaged in any cricket management role and will be kept him away from cricket.

“We also suggested his name be added in a list of persons mentioned in anti-corruption lectures who are to be avoided by the players, so this all ends here.”

The PCB confirmed five other players had also been given bans of different lengths, with Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Nawaz and Shahzaib Hasan all sanctioned and banned on separate charges.
