VETERAN Labour leftwinger Jon Lansman is tipped to win a seat on the party’s national executive committee (NEC), but the right is still hoping that comedian Eddie Izzard could squeeze him out.

A ballot to elect three additional reps for party members will open on November 30.

But latest figures show that the slate of candidates backed by Momentum has won 67 per cent of the total supportive nominations from constituency parties.

Left-wing Manchester Councillor Yasmine Dar has won 170 supportive nominations and Rachel Garnham, a left activist from Bedfordshire, has won 155.

Mr Lansman, the veteran Bennite who set up the Momentum group following Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership victory, has 148.

In contrast, candidates supported by the right-wing Progress and Labour First groups have suffered in the nominations stage.

Mr Izzard has won 71, former NEC member Johanna Baxter has tallied 69, while former local councillor Gurinder Singh Josan has 54.

A website campaigning for the right-wing trio claims they are “independent” candidates, but its small print admits that data collected on the site will be “shared jointly between Labour First Ltd and Progress Ltd.”
