London Underground 'dangerously understaffed,' says RMT

THE London Tube is suffering increasingly dangerous levels of understaffing, according to RMT.

The transport union says it has obtained internal documents from London Underground Limited (LUL) revealing a “massive rise in unstaffed stations” — and has called for an urgent recruitment campaign.

The union accused bosses of “attempting to run the Underground on the cheap in unsafe conditions.”

The union released figures yesterday revealing that since January stations had been left without staff almost 300 times.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: “As expected and predicted by RMT, the slash and burn employment model being followed by LUL over the last 10 years has left stations woefully understaffed, with passengers being expected to fend for themselves at stations regularly left unstaffed for hours at a time.”

He accused LUL of “bulldozing through a dangerous operating model” and called for action by London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
