May faces own MPs on Brexit

THERESA MAY will face opponents from within her own party at a testing 1922 Committee meeting today after violent language was anonymously used towards her by some of her MPs.

Tory MP Andrew Bridgen has denied being behind the quotes, suggesting that the PM might be “knifed in the front” at the meeting by critics of the Chequers plan for Brexit.

The quotes also suggested that she should “bring her own noose” amid threats of a vote of no confidence in the PM.

The use of violent and “dehumanising” language garnered cross-party criticism earlier this week while Tory rifts deepened over it.

Mr Bridgen, who submitted a letter of no confidence in Ms May in July, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “It’s not me. I have no idea who it was. I don’t normally hide behind anonymous quotes. I think these sorts of comments are unproductive.”

Ms May has ordered a weekly update for Cabinet ministers by Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab on the progress of preparations to leave the EU, both with and without a withdrawal deal.
