UNISON rejected a new pay offer from council leaders today, amid bin strikes which has left rubbish piled high on Scotland’s streets.

The Unite and GMB unions are still considering the proposal from umbrella body the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, details of which have not yet been made public.

Industrial action by refuse workers has hit two-thirds of the 32 councils north of the border, including Edinburgh, leading to overflowing bins and public health warnings.
