Men's Football Tottenham begin life at the new White Hart Lane with a win

Tottenham returned home and back to winning ways with an emphatic win over Crystal Palace at their dazzling new state of the art stadium on Wednesday night.

Tottenham made it an occasion to remember with a breathtaking opening ceremony in front of over 60,000 fans, double the capacity of the old White Hart Lane.

Son Heung Min made history by scoring the first Premier League goal in the new stadium with Christian Eriksen netting the second in a 2-0 win.

Former Spurs player Jermaine Jenas was amazed by the new stadium and said: “It’s a completely different world in comparison to what I was used to as a Tottenham player. It’s so technical.”

Kieran Trippier was beaming with pride after his first start in the new White Hart Lane.

“It was an amazing feeling, it’s good to be home and good for the fans to be able to support us in the new stadium and we’ve started off with a win.

“It was a massive win. The results haven’t gone our way in recent performances but it was important we started off with a win in our new stadium and we’ve done that.”

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino couldn’t hold back his excitement.

“I feel so proud. I am so happy, it’s difficult to describe the emotions. It was very emotional from the beginning before we started the game and the build-up.

“I feel so proud to see the face of Daniel Levy before the game. There was full happiness in his face, for him it’s one of the best moments of his life to open one of the best stadiums in the world.

“I am such a lucky man. It was a very special day; it is one of the best moments of my life. I think the excitement, motivation and energy today made everything possible and we start to feel like this is home, I think we were right to move here, in football if you want to achieve you have to be brave. We were brave moving and playing here this season.”

Tottenham face Huddersfield next in the Premier League, where they look to remain in the top four to secure Champions League football at the new stadium next season, but first they have a tough test against Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday.
