Amazon faces biggest ever Black Friday strikes over measly £1 pay rise

AMAZON faces its biggest ever strike after GMB announced a four-day walkout in the run-up to Black Friday.

More than 1,000 workers at its Coventry warehouse are set to down tools after bosses offered a measly £1 pay rise, despite it being one of world’s richest companies.

The strike will run from Tuesday to Friday next week, as well as Black Friday on November 24.

Amazon staff are bearing the brunt of the cost-of-living crisis on just £11.80 per hour for physically demanding 10-hour shifts.

GMB organiser Rachel Fagan said: “These strike dates will bring total days lost to industrial action to nearly 30.

“This is an unprecedented and historic moment with low-paid workers taking on one of the world’s most powerful corporations.

“Coventry is the beating heart of Amazon’s distribution network; strike action here on Black Friday will ripple throughout the company’s UK logistics.”

She urged the retail giant to “reconsider their priorities or risk strike action causing widespread disruption.”

An Amazon spokesman said: “There will be no disruption to customers.

“Our Coventry site does not directly serve customer orders.”
