Women's Football City's Weir and Houghton score twice in 7-1 thrashing of Brighton

CAROLINE WEIR and Steph Houghton both scored twice as Manchester City secured a decisive 7-1 win at Brighton in the Women’s Super League.

Weir opened the scoring for the visitors with two goals in quick succession in the 12th and 16th minutes, with captain Houghton making it 3-0 four minutes before the break.

Gareth Taylor’s side maintained the pace in the second half, with a clinical strike from Ellen White making it 4-0 in the 58th minute before Houghton, making her 150th league appearance, sealed her brace three minutes later.

Ireland international Rianna Jarrett scored a consolation goal for Brighton in the 69th minute, before Chloe Kelly restored City’s five-goal advantage with 17 minutes remaining.

Canadian Janine Beckie came off the bench to complete the scoring in the 77th minute.
