ARSENAL beat Leicester City 4-2 in an entertaining match on a blazing hot afternoon in north London. 

The highly impressive Gabriel Jesus grabbed his first Premier League goals for the Gunners as Mikel Arteta’s side eased past the Foxes in a lively clash on Saturday.

The Brazilian striker, who was signed from Manchester City this summer, netted a brace before the break and could have had more, but for the woodwork and Danny Ward’s efforts in the visitor’s goal.

Jesus also grabbed two assists, including for Granit Xhaka, who struck two minutes after William Saliba’s own goal on 53 minutes, which gave Leicester hope when pulling the score back to 2-1.

However, Xhaka, who had another assured match, restored Arsenal’s two-goal lead moments later to make it 3-1.

On 74 minutes James Maddison reduced the arrears to 3-2, firing through Aaron Ramsdale — who perhaps should have done better — only for Gabriel Martinelli to make the score 4-2 moments later, as the rampant Gunners maintained their 100 per cent start to the season.

Speaking after the match, Arteta said: “I’m really happy with the performance, the victory, the three points and with the way we played. I think it was a really good football match against a really good opponent and it was just a joy to play in front of this crowd.”

The Arsenal boss also took time out to hail the excellent atmosphere prevalent at Ashburton Grove these days, adding: “I think the crowd was special, especially after Saliba’s own goal. The way they reacted was something I’ve never seen in football — the amount of support and connection they are showing with us, and especially with William, lifted the team straight away. I have to thank them so much for that.

“From the first minute, they were electric. You feel like they are totally with us, totally engaged and it is so energising for the team. The boys keep talking about it — they can’t wait to play in front of this crowd, and it’s making a huge difference.”
