GEORGE NORTH will earn his 100th Wales cap in tomorrow’s Six Nations clash against England at the Principality Stadium, it was confirmed today.
At 28 years and 320 days, he will eclipse Australia captain Michael Hooper by four weeks as the youngest player to reach a century of caps for their country.
North and Jonathan Davies will form Wales’ centre pairing, having recovered from foot and ankle injuries respectively, while wing Josh Adams returns after serving a two-match ban for breaching coronavirus protocols.
Elsewhere Liam Williams moves from wing to full-back, replacing Leigh Halfpenny, Kieran Hardy is preferred to Gareth Davies at scrum-half, and flanker Josh Navidi also starts.
Victory for Wales would clinch the Triple Crown and keep Wayne Pivac’s team firmly on a Six Nations title course heading into appointments with Italy and France next month.
Pivac said tomorrow’s game is a great milestone for North.
“It is a huge achievement at his age and we are looking forward to seeing him in action,” he said.
And Shane Williams, who won 87 caps for Wales, backed George North to eventually chase down his international try-scoring record of 58.
“If there’s anyone who’s going to do it, it’s going to be George,” said Williams of North, who currently sits second on 42.
“He’s still very young, he could potentially play for four or five years.
“Hopefully wanting to beat my record and be the top try-scorer for Wales will keep him hungry and keep him fit and he’ll have the desire there right to the end.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if he goes on to do that.”
