Sport in Brief - February 26, 2021

FOOTBALL: Pep Guardiola has “sarcastically” claimed that Man City’s stunning run of success is down to nothing but money.

City chalked up their 19th successive win in all competitions as they eased to a 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday.

Asked to explain the reasons behind the run, the Spaniard provided a simple answer: “We have a lot of money to buy a lot of incredible players. All the time we win for the money — that is true.”

ATHLETICS: Caster Semenya will go to the European Court of Human Rights over “discriminatory” rules regarding her high natural testosterone.

World Athletics rules force the Olympic track champion to medically lower her testosterone before she can take part in some women’s races.

But Semenya’s lawyers said this comprises a “violation of her rights” by WA, which has previously branded the athlete “biologically male.”

CYCLING: Brit Simon Yates intends to race the Giro d’Italia this season after organisers unveiled what he branded a “really nice” route.

The Italian grand tour this year has six mountain finishes and little time trialling.

The 2018 winner, who finished eighth in 2019 and did not finish last year due to Covid-19, said: “All I hope for is to have a clean run in 2021 without these things and … show myself in the best way possible.”

FOOTBALL: Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa wants Jack Grealish back in the Aston Villa line-up when the sides meet at tomorrow.

Grealish was missing for Villa’s defeat to Leicester last weekend.

But Bielsa of their upcoming visit: “I always prefer that opponents have their best players available because even if that fortifies a team, and makes them more scary to face, it’s also a stimulus for us to face such players, to try to neutralise them.”
