FOOTBALL: Aston Villa have revealed details of their plan to redevelop the area around Villa Park and increase stadium capacity to over 50,000.

The club have launched a consultation on the plans, which include a new North Stand, improvements to the existing Trinity Stand, commercial areas and a community space. Villa hope work on the improvements will begin next year.

The four-week consultation is intended to enable local residents and businesses to complete a survey and have their say on the plans.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: More than 20,000 people have signed a petition opposing Everton’s choice of a betting firm as their main shirt sponsor, with one recovering gambling addict fan accusing the Toffees of “selling the soul of the club.”

The club said there is nothing illegal in the deal, although the government is set to decide on whether to change gambling laws, including a ban of sponsorship in football, next month, and it has been a purely commercial decision

The Toffees have posted cumulative losses of more than £370 million in the last three financial years and recently lost lucrative deals with Alisher Usmanov’s USM group due to government sanctions against Russian billionaires.

RACISM: Lewis Hamilton insists “archaic mindsets” need to change after it emerged former Formula One world champion Nelson Piquet used a racial epithet towards the Mercedes driver.

An interview conducted after the 2021 British Grand Prix has surfaced in which Piquet, 69, used a slur aimed at Hamilton.
