Men's Football Striking Macclesfield players watch from the stands as Town are dumped out of the FA Cup

MACCLESFIELD’S problems deepened as they were the victims of an FA Cup giant-killing against Isthmian League Premier Division side Kingstonian at Moss Rose.

League Two Town confirmed the game would go ahead after speculation that it would be postponed as a result of a players’ strike due to the club’s failure to pay their wages.

But no first-team players were included in their squad, they did turn up and watched the game from the stands, with their side consisting of youngsters and loanees, and they paid the price.

Dan Hector and Louie Theophanous both netted inside 11 minutes before Dan Bennett and Theophanous scored in the second half to give Kingstonian a thumping 4-0 win.

Fans also boycotted the clash and there were protests outside the ground against owner Amar Alkadhi.

Isthmian League North Division outfit Maldon & Tiptree also pulled off a major shock, winning 2-1 at Leyton Orient.

Danny Parish opened the scoring just before half-time, sparking wild celebrations, and Jerome Slew doubled their lead in the 65th minute.

Substitute James Dayton halved the deficit for Orient, who played against 10 men for the final six minutes following Parish’s dismissal.

Former Macclesfield manager Sol Campbell saw his Southend side beaten 1-0 by Dover of the National League.

Campbell, a winner of the competition as a player, has yet to taste victory as Shrimpers boss after Ruel Sotiriou’s 84th-minute drive condemned his struggling side to a fourth consecutive defeat.

Jonny Smith struck the winner to ensure Oldham beat Gateshead 2-1.

Filipe Morais put the League Two team in front in the 20th minute before Liam Agnew equalised, but Smith won the game 13 minutes from time.

Vadaine Oliver bagged twice after Harry Smith opened the scoring to give Northampton a 3-0 triumph over Chippenham.

National League North leaders York were made to pay for missed chances in their 1-0 defeat to Altrincham at Bootham Crescent.

After Sean Newton hit the crossbar and Andy Bond failed to score from the penalty spot, Tom Peers fired the visitors to victory eight minutes from time, ending the Minstermen’s 19-match unbeaten run.

Chis Bush’s 83rd-minute equaliser secured Bromley, top of the National League, a 1-1 draw at Bristol Rovers, who went ahead through Luke Leahy.

League One Rochdale were held to a goalless draw at non-league Wrexham.

Sam Long and Rob Hall struck as Oxford won 2-0 at Hayes & Yeading in the later kick-off.
