War on Yemen Saudi forces blow up Houthi ships

SAUDI forces destroyed two boats from Yemen’s Houthi movement yesterday, claiming that they were threatening an oil tanker in the Red Sea.

Another boat is believed to have escaped the bombing.

Saudi Arabia is leading a coalition supporting exiled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi against Shi’ite Houthi rebels, who forced him to flee to Riyadh in 2015 following an uprising.

The United States, Britain and other Western governments have armed and advised the Saudi-led coalition, and the imperialist powers have been widely accused of using the conflict to wage a proxy war against Iran, which is alleged to support the Houthis.

Saudi Arabia and its regional allies have been accused of war crimes. Their bombing campaign has killed more than 10,000 civilians and their blockade of Yemen has brought millions to the brink of starvation.

In addition, millions internally displaced and the country is in the grip of its worst-ever cholera epidemic.

The United Nations refugee agency has declared a humanitarian crisis.

Tensions have escalated recently after Houthis fired missiles at Saudi infrastructure, including an Aramaco oil facility and a military base near the border with Yemen.
