SENEDD members expressed alarm today at the wave of job losses across Wales and the loss of funding as the British government reneged on its promises to match former EU funding.
Plaid Cymru’s economic spokesman Luke Fletcher pointed to the wave of job losses over the summer as businesses closed and its impact on young people.
Economy minister Vaughan Gething said the more recent data shows a “tightening and a slight rise in unemployment in Wales, but we still do well compared to UK figures.”
Former economy minister Ken Skates was concerned about the loss of EU funding and said: “We’re now more than £1 billion worse off as a result of the UK government’s failure to meet its promise to replace previous EU funds in full.”
Mr Gething replied: “We’ll continue to stand up and make the case that Wales should have not been left over £1bn short.”
