MEN’S FOOTBALL: The FA Cup first round kicks off on Wednesday evening with Alfreton Town from National League North making the short trip to former winners Notts County, who beat Bolton to lift the trophy way back in 1894.

County currently sit third in League Two, 52 places above Alfreton.

Friday night’s other game sees the National League’s Tamworth host League One high-fliers Huddersfield at their 5,000 capacity Lamb Ground.

MEN’S CRICKET: Having already lost their first home test series for 12 years, India stand on the brink of a 3-0 whitewash when they take on New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium tomorrow.

The tourists have enjoyed two thumping victories so far, romping to an eight-wicket win in the first test at Bengaluru and coasting home by 113 runs in Pune where Kiwi spinner Mitchell Santner returned match figures of 13-157.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Reigning British champions the London Lions kickstart a new Super League season tomorrow evening when they take on Sheffield at the Copper Box arena.

A much-changed Lions squad has already lost four of its six opening matches in the domestic Trophy competition and failed to reach the knock-out rounds.

Leicester Riders, who won all six of their Trophy games, travel to face a re-vamped Surrey 89ers on Saturday.

BASEBALL: The LA Dodgers came from 5-0 down to beat the New York Yankees 7-6 in the Bronx this morning and sealed the World Series finals by a 4-1 margin.

It’s the second time in five years that the Dodgers have got their hands on the Commissioner’s Trophy.

Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was named as the finals most valuable player after hitting four home runs and 12 runs batted in.
