Arsenal continued their inspired run of form thrashing Fulham 5-1 at Craven Cottage yesterday thanks to braces from Alexandre Lacazette and substitute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It makes for the north Londoners’ sixth Premier League win on the bounce but head coach Unai Emery is remaining level headed about his side’s prospects this season.

“Usually, I don’t want to look backwards,” said the Spaniard when asked about his team’s good patch of form. “Every match is different. We want to move up the table little by little and be in the best position to meet our objectives.

“Today we are very happy but we also need to be calm because we know each match is difficult so we will continue with our process and our ability.”

Lacazette opened the scoring after a smart turn in the box to gain a yard of space on centre half Tim Ream, the Frenchman finishing the move neatly.

However, Andre Schurrle was able to restore parity for the home side just before the break. 

Nacho Monreal unusually gifted away possession so Aleksandar Mitrovic threaded through the former Chelsea player and the Germany international was able to dink the ball nicely over the onrushing Bernd Leno.

Despite Fulham finishing the first half with their best spell, it was the visitors who started the second period the brightest. 

Lacazette played the protagonist in the Cottagers’ downfall again, hitting a wonderfully struck long-range effort on the half volley.

With just a goal separating the two teams, Emery deployed a new attacking dynamic in the shape of substitutes Aubameyang and Aaron Ramsey.

The impact was instantaneous, combining with such effervescence as to elicit chants from the visiting support behind the goal of “we’ve got our Arsenal back” in clear appreciation of this all-out, offensive style of football.

A fantastic team goal ensued when Ramsey picked up the ball in midfield and glided forward, spreading it wide to Aubameyang, via Henrikh Mkhitaryan, in space down the left channel. 

The striker crossed back into the path of the Welshman who produced an instinctive back heel at the near post to beat the keeper.

Next, Mkhitaryan’s diagonal ball found Hector Bellerin racing down the right flank. Bringing it under control, the full-back turned it back inside towards the feet of Aubameyang who, with back to goal, swivelled and thumped it past Marcus Bettinelli.

The Gunners weren’t done there though, as they relentlessly sought to expose Fulham’s frailties, carving their way through the midfield like a hot knife through butter.

Ramsey returned Aubameyang’s earlier assist turning provider himself when, having spotted his teammate’s run, he popped the ball into his feet. The Gabon international’s finish was clinical and completed the Gunners 5-1 rout over their newly promoted London rivals.

The result keeps Arsenal well within range of the fiercely contested Champions League places, while Fulham languish in 17th, just two points clear of the drop zone.
