Syrians stay quiet on apparent deal to evacuate Isis fighters from Damascus

SYRIAN political and military officials remained tight-lipped today over an apparent deal to evacuate all Isis fighters and their families from southern Damascus.

Dozens of buses were filmed on Saturday night entering Yarmouk and Hajar al-Aswad ready to transfer Isis personnel to the Badiya region of Syria’s eastern desert.

The Isis surrender became inevitable following recent Syrian army advances that reduced the area occupied by the death cult by 70 per cent. Its withdrawal would mark the first time in seven years that the capital has been free of jihadist groups.

Before leaving, Isis set light to its posts in Yarmouk, which began as a refugee camp for Palestinians driven from their homeland in 1948.

The built-up area, home to tens of thousands of Palestinians and Syrians before the current war, was attacked first by Free Syrian Army units and then occupied in 2015 by Isis.
