Men's Football Tottenham keep their cool in shoot-out victory against Watford

TOTTENHAM came out on top of a dramatic penalty shoot-out in the League Cup yesterday against rivals Watford.

The Premier League sides left it to the death as the Hornets scored a late equaliser to take it to penalties, which saw Spurs’ third choice keeper Paulo Gazziniga save two from the spot and Dele Alli score the winner at his old stomping ground in his role as captain for the night.

Dele scored another important penalty during the game and said: “I was selected to take the fourth penalty, I wanted to take it. It was written that I was going to step up.

“I don’t think there was pressure. It was nice to come back, a great experience and it’s how you take it. I think for me it was about coming back and enjoying the experience again.

“We want to have the mentality that, whatever game or competition, we want to win and go as far as we can. The whole club deserves it, we’ve had a few good years, but its time we start getting the trophies we deserve.

Tottenham progress to the next round of the cup where their trophy hunt continues as the competition rises with the majority of the teams left in the hat being from the Premier League.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t convinced by the first-half performance of his players and said: “Maybe the performance wasn’t great, but the objective is to go through. The second half we conceded so early, but the team fight. Fantastic character we showed, it’s exciting to still be involved in the competition.”
