At least six Palestinian children killed by Israeli bombardment of Gaza

AT LEAST six Palestinian children were killed in Israeli bombardments of Gaza at the weekend.

Israel had said earlier today that its attacks would “continue as long as necessary,” raising fears of all-out war. However, a truce has now reportedly been agreed between Israel and Palestinian resistance leaders, with a ceasefire set to come into effect later this evening.

Four children died when Israeli missiles struck a refugee camp and Palestinian health authorities appealed to the international community for help as supplies run low.

Their efforts have been further hampered by the shutdown of Gaza’s only power station due to a shortage of fuel as the plant’s representative warned of an impending humanitarian crisis.

Israel closed the Erez border crossing last Tuesday, tightening a crippling blockade of Gaza’s 2.2 million population that has been in place since 2007.

Tel Aviv says that Operation Breaking Dawn, which began on Friday, is aimed at leading figures of Palestinian resistance group Islamic Jihad and that a number of its cadres have been killed. Soon after this story was published, Israel said the operation's objectives had been achieved.

The Masar Badil (Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement), which held its founding conference in Spain last year, called for urgent international solidarity actions.

It appealed to “all of the democratic and popular forces in the world to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Gaza and stand by the forces of the Palestinian resistance and their militant confrontation of the zionist aggression on besieged Gaza.”

The Palestinian presidency said that it “strongly condemned the dangerous Israeli escalation against our people in the Gaza Strip, which so far resulted in the killing of 32 Palestinians and the injury of nearly 250 others.”

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said that “the persisting of the Israeli aggression … in the Al-Aqsa mosque, the Gaza Strip, Jenin and other Palestinian cities and villages crosses all red lines and represents an Israeli attempt to push the situation into more escalation and tension.”

He urged the international community, especially the US administration, to rein in Israel immediately “before it is too late.”
