At least one injured as Israeli navy opens fire on Palestinian fishing boat off Gaza coast

AT LEAST one person was injured today when the Israel navy attacked a Palestinian fishing boat off the Gaza Strip.

According to local reports, naval boats opened fire on the fishing vessel, injuring one crew member in the foot as the others took cover.

He was treated in hospital for his wounds, which doctors described as “moderate.”

It is unclear why the Israeli navy attacked the Palestinian boat. The incident took place a day after Tel Aviv extended Gaza’s fishing zone to its furthest extent in years.

The coastal enclave, into which two million are crammed, has been besieged by Israel since 2007, when Islamist movement Hamas was elected to govern the territory.

The Palestinians in the strip have no control over its borders, territorial waters or airspace and face shortages of basic food and medicine and mass unemployment.

Israel has responded violently to protests demanding an end to the brutal blockade, but resistance forces have vowed to continue the nightly demonstrations until it is lifted.
