New Zealand to admit alleged Isis militant and her two children

A SUSPECTED Isis jihadist and her two children can be admitted to New Zealand, its government announced today, bringing an end to a row with Australia.

The Oceanian nations had been locked in a dispute over who should take responsibility for the woman, who previously held dual citizenship of both countries.

She had lived in Australia since the age of six and travelled to Syria using an Australian passport in 2014.

Canberra cancelled her Australian citizenship last year under its anti-terrorism laws.

She was reportedly arrested while illegally crossing into Turkey with her children, with Ankara describing her as a terrorist.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the woman and her children would be repatriated in a safe manner.

“They are not Turkey’s responsibility, and with Australia refusing to accept the family, that makes them ours,” she said in a statement.

“I can assure people great care is being taken as to how the woman and her young children are returned to New Zealand and how they will be managed in a way that minimises any risk for New Zealanders.”
