Trump accused of risking Ilhan Omar's life over fake video share

US PRESIDENT Donald Trump was accused of putting Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s life at risk by sharing a video falsely claiming that she was dancing and partying on the 18th anniversary of 9/11.

The video was originally posted to Twitter by conservative US comedian Terrence K Williams on Wednesday with the comment: “I need to talk to Omar. Girl, what in the world were you celebrating on the anniversary of 9/11?”

Mr Trump then shared the tweet with his 64 million followers saying: “The new face of the Democrat Party!”

Ms Omar hit back at Mr Trump and warned of the consequences of such disinformation.

“The President of the United States is continuing to spread lies that put my life at risk,” she wrote on Twitter. “What is Twitter doing to combat this misinformation?”

The original footage of Ms Omar was in fact taken at an event two days after the anniversary of the attacks.

Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, who filmed Ms Omar said: “I never thought that a video taken on 9/13 would be linked to 9/11 and used as one more racist smear.”
