Trump's referring to Netanyahu as ‘your prime minister’ at a speech to US jews criticised

THE American Jewish Committee (AJC) criticised US President Donald Trump today after he referred to Mr Netanyahu as “your prime minister” in a speech to an audience of US Jews.

Addressing the American Republican Jewish Coalition (ARJC), the US president said: “I stood with your prime minister at the White House to recognise Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.”

The AJC tweeted: “Mr President, the Prime Minister of Israel is the leader of his (or her) country, not ours. Statements to the contrary, from staunch friends or harsh critics, feed bigotry.”

Mr Trump received a warm reception at the ARJC with other speakers welcoming his downgrading of relations with Palestine and shift in US policy towards uncritical backing for Israeli expansionism. It stood in contrast to his performance at the same event as a candidate for the presidency in 2015, where he said that Jewish voters would not back him because “I don’t want your money.”
