AUSTRALIA: A ruling party MP was forced to apologise to Parliament after being accused of repeatedly harassing two women online.

Andrew Laming said that he “unreservedly” apologised to both women, one of whom said that she had been left suicidal.

A series of rape, misconduct and sexism allegations have rocked Australian politics in the past month.

 

ETHIOPIA: Eritrea has agreed to withdraw its troops from Ethiopia’s Tigray region, where witnesses have reported them looting, raping and killing civilians.

The statement from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s office follows intense pressure from other countries to address the deadly crisis in Tigray.

Ethiopian forces will take over guarding the border areas, “effective immediately.”

 

BANGLADESH: At least four people were killed and scores injured in violent protests during a visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence.

Students from a prominent Islamic school and members of an Islamist group clashed with police in the south-eastern district of Chattogram. Five people were taken to hospital and four died during treatment.

 

SAUDI ARABIA: A fuel tank at a oil facility caught fire after being hit in an attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Saudi defence officials reported a barrage of eight bomb-carrying drones launched by the Houthi rebels.

The attack at Jizan, near the Yemeni border, came on the sixth anniversary of the kingdom’s entry into Yemen’s civil war.
