Men's Football West Ham spoil Tottenham's party by becoming the first away side to win at the new White Hart Lane

MICHAIL ANTONIO became the first opposition player to score in Tottenham’s new stadium as West Ham narrowly beat Tottenham 1-0 on Saturday, also ending Spurs’ unbeaten record at the new White Hart Lane.

West Ham were the first opponents to leave Ashburton Grove with all three points when Arsenal moved into their new stadium 12 years ago and the Hammers were quick to spoil Spurs parade in the same fashion in their new home.

The West Ham forward scored a well-taken goal to pile on the pressure on their London rivals, who are looking to secure a top-four finish.

Goalscorer Antonio said his finish came from a tactical switch.

“I’ll take the only goal at Tottenham so far. Somehow myself and Marco [Arnautovic] switched positions, as attackers we always rotate to see where we can find more joy.

“I think we swapped because I ran in behind and he covered my position. He picked up the ball and beat Davies and got a bit of joy at the time, so he decided to stay out wide and we managed to get the goal.

“I thought I should have scored more. We thought they would make some changes because of Champions League. They are still fighting for their fourth place in the league and every games a fight.

“They know it’s a massive game at West Ham because of the rivalry. We knew what we needed to do and we executed it well. We kept getting in behind their fall backs and that’s how we got our goal.”

Spurs will be hoping to overcome this defeat on Tuesday night as they face Ajax in the Champions League semi final at White Hart Lane.
