KOSOVO: Judges of a European Union-backed court yesterday ordered the arrest of three more Kosovo war veterans on alleged offences against the administration of justice.

A statement from the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office, based in The Hague, Netherlands, confirmed ongoing operations in Kosovo authorised by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and supported by the EU’s Rule of Law Mission.

Kosovar media reported three arrests.

CONGO: Health Minister Roger Kamba said yesterday that the government is on alert over a mystery flu-like disease that in recent weeks killed dozens of people.

Authorities have so far confirmed 71 deaths, including 27 people who died in hospitals and 44 in the community in the southern Kwango province, Mr Kamba said.

“The Congolese government is on general alert regarding this disease,” Kamba said.

CHINA: Rescuers in southern China were searching yesterday for 13 workers missing after a railroad construction site caved in in the business centre of Shenzhen.

An emergency management bureau’s statement said the collapse occurred at about 11pm on Wednesday at a construction site on a section of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway in Bao’an district. 

An investigation into the cause was underway.

KENYA: A court in Kenya has found the housemate of an LGBT activist guilty of murder in the killing of the activist, whose body was discovered stashed in a metal box two years ago.

A High Court judge in the western city of Eldoret said on Wednesday that the prosecution had shown that Jacktone Odhiambo suffocated Edwin Chiloba and stashed his body in a metal box that was dumped on a road with the help of his brother and cousin.
