AUSTRALIA: The world’s oldest known Sumatran orangutan has died in Perth zoo aged 62, due to age-related complications.

Puan leaves behind an “incredible legacy” of 54 descendants with primate supervisor Holly Thompson saying “her genetics count for just under 10 per cent of the global zoological population.”

Sumatran orangutans are a critically endangered species and rarely live beyond 50 in the wild.

UNITED STATES: Rapper XXXTentacion, who was facing 15 charges of violence including battery against a pregnant woman, has been shot dead in Florida.

He was targeted as he left a motorcycle dealership. Police confirmed the rapper, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, died in hospital.

Investigators said the shooting was “a possible robbery” after he was approached by two armed men who shot him before fleeing the scene.

ARGENTINA: A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of high-profile transgender activist Diana Sacayan who was stabbed to death in 2015.

Gabriel David Marino admitted to sexual encounters with the victim in exchange for drugs but denied murder.

He is the first person to be jailed in Argentina under legislation on crimes against transgender people.

SWEDEN: Three people have been killed and several wounded after a shooting at an internet cafe in Malmo.

The attack happened near a police station and is being linked to organised crime as the gunman made his escape in a getaway car.

The southern Swedish city has gained a reputation for gang violence. However fatal attacks dropped from 30 to 17 last year.
