SWEDEN: Five people were shot at an adult education centre in the city of Orebo in Sweden, the police said today.

The conditions of the victims weren’t immediately clear.

FRANCE: Far-right National Rally party leaderJordan Bardella said today that he doesn’t support a no-confidence motion filed against the government, making it more likely that the prime minister will remain in office and a 2025 budget will be adopted.

The parties of the left-wing New Popular Front are expected to support the motion but don’t have the numbers on their own to bring down the government.

AUSTRALIA: Monsoon rains unleashed flooding in Australia’s Queensland that have claimed the lives of two people as the week-long deluge dropped months of rainfall in just a few days.

The body of a woman was found today in a paddock near the North Queensland town of Ingham.

It followed the death of a woman on Sunday when the rescue boat she was travelling in struck a tree and flipped.

UNITED STATES: California’s Democratic-dominated Assembly endorsed up to $50 million (£40m) in funding on Monday to defend the state’s progressive policies against challenges by the Trump administration.

The legislation sets aside $25m (£20m) for the state Department of Justice to fight legal battles against the federal government, and another $25m for legal groups to defend immigrants facing possible deportation.
