Football Eagles have their wings clipped by Swans

TAMMY Abraham registered his side’s first league shot on target this season as Swansea scored either side of the interval to make it 0-2 against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Neither side have had the greatest of starts to their respective league campaigns as both teams had failed to make it onto the scoresheet this season prior to this meeting.

The visitors were made to wait until the end of the first half before they were able to rid themselves of this unwanted record as Leroy Fer’s wonderful cross was finished by Abraham.

The goal was subsequently his first in Swansea colours as the Chelsea loanee will be aiming to replicate the form he showed last season for Bristol City — albeit this time — in the top-flight.

“At this level there’s a lot of scrutiny when a striker doesn’t score in two games” said delighted Swans boss Paul Clement.

“But he’s new to the level, the fact that he’s now off the mark in the Premier League is good for him. He is a goalscorer and he’s very happy that he made that contribution today.”

Jordan Ayew then made it 2-0 to the Welsh side shortly after the interval. He evaded Wayne Hennessey’s feeble challenge to roll the ball into an empty net — effectively putting the game past Palace’s reach.

Eagles boss Frank de Boer was damning when it came to analysing his side’s performance.

“It’s very disappointing for everybody … especially the first-half. [We] didn’t show any courage on the ball.

“There were a lot of moments that we could really play on the ground but there was no moment where we looked comfortable on the ball.

“I cannot say that it was because Swansea did a fantastic job, there were two teams I think that didn’t play their best.

“In three minutes, we gave the game away, we could’ve done better with both goals. But the thing I was most disappointed with was that we didn’t show the courage.”

With the international break looming, both managers will already be looking ahead to their next game. Palace will make the trip to Burnley while the Swans host Newcastle on the same day.
