THE Danish football association (DBU) has cancelled tomorrow’s Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Sweden after pay negotiations fell apart.
They had previously cancelled a friendly against the Netherlands, but there were hopes that a deal could be reached by yesterday morning.
It also throws next Tuesday’s qualifier against Croatia into doubt.
Danish striker Pernille Harder said she was bewildered how a deal had not yet been reached.
“Actually, I do not think there is anything that separates us into negotiations, so it’s so hard for me to understand that we do not get to the table and negotiate,” said Harder.
The DBU claims to have offered to increase the annual investment in the women’s team by 2 million kroner (£240,000) to 4.6m kroner (£552,000) — to be spent on higher salaries, among other things.
After cancelling last month’s friendly, the two sides reached a partial agreement, allowing the World Cup qualifier against Hungary to go ahead. However, differences between the DBU and the Danish Football Players’ Association remain.
