American Football Baldwin: Thursday games ‘should be illegal’

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS receiver Doug Baldwin slammed the NFL on Thursday night and said playing on Thursday nights “should be illegal.”

At least seven players left the game with injuries, including knee injuries to Arizona Cardinals starting left tackle DJ Humphries and the team’s leading tackler, safety Tyvon Branch, while Baldwin’s teammate Richard Sherman ruptured his Achilles tendon, which ends his season.

Players have often voiced their concerns about playing on Thursdays and a furious Baldwin said that the short rest period between Sunday and Thursday is putting players’ health at risk.

“This shit should be illegal,” Baldwin said. “It is not OK. It’s not OK. You can quote me on that.

“This is not OK … guys do not have enough time to recover. You can’t recover in four days.”

Seahawks teammate Michael Bennett agreed, adding: “It’s kind of hard to get back out there and recover. That’s why you see so many injuries on Thursday night.

“You want to give the fans what they want, but also be able to protect the players as much as you can. Sometimes I feel like Thursday night football doesn’t give [an] opportunity to protect [the players].”
