A NEW campaigning group against school cuts is being launched in Calderdale in West Yorkshire, writes Peter Lazenby.
Calderdale Against School Cuts (CASC) brings together school governors, teachers, head teachers, parents and families.
The group said that government cuts will affect 88 per cent of Calderdale’s schools.
“This is the first time that such a wide-ranging group of people have worked together in Calderdale to highlight the cuts to school funding,” the campaign group said in a statement.
“These cuts will see schools’ budgets decline in real terms by 4.6 per cent by 2020 and inevitably lead to less teachers and classroom assistants and bigger class sizes.
“As the Chancellor of the Exchequer appears to say ‘bah humbug!’ to our schools that are facing draconian cuts, we need people to persuade this modern-day Scrooge to change his mind.”
It said the views of parents, head teachers, governors and teachers were being ignored by the government.
