BACK in 2012, an artist by the name of Mear One posted on Facebook that his mural (which he said was anti-capitalist) in East London was about to be painted over by the council.

Then a Labour backbench MP, Jeremy Corbyn, asked why in a post underneath. Interestingly, The Jewish Chronicle reported on the story in 2015 but it didn’t gain much traction.

Now, six years after the incident and on the cusp of the local elections in May, the story is back in focus again.

On Monday the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council called for a protest outside Westminster saying they hold Corbyn personally responsible for anti-semitic comments made online and in Labour meetings.

However, Jewish socialist groups said the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council were “unrepresentative” and condemned their “flimsy accusations” of anti-semitism against Jeremy  Corbyn.

One of those groups was Jewish Voice for Labour (JVL). I spoke with JVL’s Mike Cushman yesterday about the latest anti-semitism smears on the Labour leader, anti-semitism within the left, the media, and cultural hegemony.
