GMB has become the second union to agree a recognition deal with the Parliamentary Labour Party.
The union has signed an agreement with PLP chair Jon Cryer to represent the staff of Labour MPs
They join Unite, which campaigned for more than three decades to get official recognition in Westminster.
GMB London regional officer Vaughan West said: “In recent months, many staff who work for MPs have come forward, sometimes anonymously, to report incidents of bullying and harassment and sometimes inappropriate sexual advances.
“GMB hope that this agreement will mark a sea change in the way that MPs and members of the House of Lords behave towards their employees.
“GMB hope that, by signing this agreement, MPs and members of the Lords will learn that they must treat their staff with dignity and respect.”
He said that staff in any workplace “whether it is the Houses of Parliament or a MPs constituency office, deserve the same protection as in any other workplace.”
Mr West said he hoped other parties would soon follow suit.
