Tamimi ‘would go back to prison for a free Palestine’

PALESTINIAN freedom activist Ahed Tamimi said on Wednesday that she would go to prison “a thousand times” to win the freedom of her people.

The youngster was speaking in her Nabi Saleh home in the occupied West Bank days after her release from an Israeli jail where she had served eight months on terrorism charges for slapping a heavily armed Israeli soldier. Hours before, Ms Tamimi’s cousin had been shot in the face by a steel-coated bullet, prompting her angry response.

Ms Tamimi said she had no regrets for her actions, filmed in a clip that went viral earlier this year. She explained that “it was a reaction to the invaders’ presence in my land and my home.”

The Tamimi family are well-known campaigners against the illegal occupation of Palestinian land and are routinely harassed by Israeli forces.

She said: “Indeed a prison is a very difficult thing. But thank God I found myself there because of my beliefs. And I am ready to go a thousand times to prison for our land [Palestine].”

“My big dream is to liberate Palestine. I dream to implement all my goals: to learn, to get a PhD.

“I also dream that all those detained – women and men – would be set free in the near future. I also want to say to all those detained: ‘I am with you.’ I want to say to my detained sisters, if they see me, that I love them, I miss them very much and will never forget them,” she said.
