DOZENS of demonstrators protested outside Israeli President Reuven Rivlin’s residence today, awaiting Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit.
They waved Israeli flags, blew whistles and chanted: “Shame, shame, shame. We will not be silent and we will not agree to the selling of weapons.”
Israel has sold assault rifles to the Philippines national police force in the past and a major arms sale is reportedly on the agenda of Mr Duterte’s visit.
The Philippine president praised Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, which shares his taste for extrajudicial killings, for helping him to win the war against terrorism, defeating Isis in a five-month battle for the southern city of Marawi.
Mr Duterte said he had told his military that, when it comes to purchasing weaponry, Israel is the only country to buy from.
He explained that weapons purchases from the US, China and Germany come with restraints, but he saw no such problem with Israel.
