HAMPDEN will remain the home of Scottish football after Queen’s Park agreed a £5 million deal to sell their stadium to the governing body.
The Scottish FA had been considering moving major internationals and Scottish Cup semi-finals and finals to Murrayfield following an offer from the Scottish Rugby Union.
An SFA statement read: “Ownership of Hampden Park will enable the Scottish FA to control the future of the stadium. It will open up opportunities to continue to develop the infrastructure and create a national stadium that will inspire the next generation of football fans."
The SFA confirmed that Glasgow businessman Lord Willie Haughey, a former Celtic director, had pledged half of the purchase cost.
Scotland men’s national team has played most of their home games at Hampden Park since 1906, though the national team played at an earlier incarnation of the stadium as early as 1878.
