THE man who allegedly egged Ukip leader Nigel Farage during his visit to Nottingham was charged with common assault yesterday.
Nottinghamshire Police said Frederick Glenister was charged on Thursday night in connection with the egging during Mr Farage’s walkout about the city on Thursday.
Mr Farage met a messy end on the latest leg of his tour to rally supporters ahead of European elections on May 22.
He quickly got back into his chauffeur-driven car, abandoning a planned walkabout of the city and went to nearby pub.
Mr Glenister has been released on police bail to appear before Nottingham magistrates’ court on May 22, Nottinghamshire Police said.
Unite Against Fascism called on Britain to reject Mr Farage and his party after many of its candidates were exposed as racists by the Evening Standard newspaper.
UAF secretary Sabby Dahlu said: “There appears to be a racism epidemic in Ukip, along with Islamophobia, sexism and homophobia.”
