Continental Cup Football: Blues put 13 past stingless Bees

Chelsea through to semi-finals after 13-0 victory over London Bees

Chelsea 13
London Bees 0

Chelsea taught the London Bees a footballing lesson yesterday afternoon and cruised into the semi-finals of the Continental Cup, defeating them 12-0 in the final group game.

The London Bees came into the game on the back of a 7-0 thumping at the hands of another London club last week, Arsenal.

And they didn’t fare any better this week, shipping seven goals in the first half.

The first half was reminiscent of Germany’s flawless display against Brazil in the World Cup, with Chelsea hardly putting a foot wrong while the Bees struggled to get out of their own box let, alone their half.

It took Ana Borges seven minutes to score on her home debut, firing a drilled shot past goalkeeper Cherie Rowlands.

And the Blues doubled their lead when Drew Spence scrambled home after 11 minutes.

Chelsea continued to dominate and 15 minutes before half-time they punished the Bees with five goals before the end of the half.

First up was Ji So-Yun who got her first of the afternoon when she curled her free-kick from the edge of the box into the bottom right-hand corner.

A minute later Ana Williams got in on the act. Her initial shot was blocked but luck was on her side when the rebound fell to her and this time found the back of the net.

So-Yun grabbed her second of the afternoon after 36 minutes after more poor defending from the Bees defence. The 23-year-old was able to waltz into the box and smashed the ball past a helpless goalkeeper.

The home side didn’t let up and Emma Wilhelmsson’s header made it six with five minutes remaining of the half.

And it was seven on the stroke of half-time when Spence managed to get her toe to the ball before Rowlands and grab her second of the afternoon.

Unlike Germany, Chelsea didn’t take their foot off the gas and continued to go for the jugular.

The second half started the same as the first, with the home side coming straight out of the traps to score two goals within 10 minutes.

It was eight when Laura Coombs converted a header from close range and two minutes later Williams lobbed Rowlands to make it nine.

Williams put Chelsea into double figures and grabbed herself a hat-trick when she converted from the spot after 60 minutes.

Jackie Groenen made it 11 when Borges turned provider and Groenen couldn’t miss.

Nothing could go right for the away side, when the linesman ruled Groenen offside but the referee overruled the flag and the Belgian grabbed her second of the afternoon and the game’s 12th.

In the dying minutes substitute Atlanta Primus made it 13 with an emphatic finish.
