Assisted Dying Bill lacks safeguards, says DPAC

DISABLED rights campaigners will take action this morning against the government’s Assisted Dying Bill, which is being voted on by Parliament.

Activists from member organisations of the Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance, including Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC), will stand outside the House of Commons wearing white.

They believe that passing the law at a time of welfare cuts and benefit sanctions would leave disabled people even more vulnerable.

“The lack of safeguards in the Bill make it an extreme danger to disabled people everywhere,” said DPAC spokeswoman Debbie Jolly.

“The Bill should be rejected — such Bills will never be safe. Nor will they ever provide adequate protection.

“We know this from evidence of other countries.”

A recent report by the Office for Disability Issues revealed that disabled people felt they had less and less choice and control over their lives.
