Extra 50,000 call for housing crisis help
Whopping 450,000 ring Shelter desperate for advice
HOMELESSNESS charity Shelter’s advice line was inundated with an extra 50,000 calls over the last year — and it expects thousands more in the run-up to Christmas.
Shelter received at least 450,000 enquiries in the last 12 months — around 1,200 a day — and lines were so busy many people facing eviction rang multiple times to get through.
One in four of the calls answered came from those on the brink of homelessness after being told by landlords that they would be kicked out within a month.
