Former aide slams PM’s ‘distraction bid’

A FORMER key aide to David Cameron accused the Prime Minister yesterday of making a desperate plea for Britain to vote to remain in the European Union in an attempt to draw attention away from his “lost arguments.”

Former Downing Street PR strategist Steve Hilton said “panicky spin doctors” had advised Mr Cameron to make the “weird” statement outside Number 10 to drive up the number of Remain votes.

He told BBC News: “What you just saw from the Prime Minister was an admission that they have lost the economic argument and they have lost the argument on immigration.
