South Korean islanders evacuate amid exchange of fire
Koreas shell each other's waters after Pyongyang military drill
Residents of five front-line South Korean islands were evacuated to shelters yesterday after North and South Korea fired artillery shells into each other’s waters.
South Korean artillery returned fire after shells from a North Korean live-fire drill fell south of the Koreas’ disputed western sea boundary, a South Korean military official claimed.
No shells from either side had been aimed at any land target or military installation, the official said.
