THOUSANDS of trade unionists and their families visited the “workers’ stately home” Wortley Hall yesterday for the annual South Yorkshire Festival.
Music from brass bands and political speakers entertained the guests, along with 100 stalls run by trade unions and political campaigns, including the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign.
A meeting organised by the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom heard veteran BBC broadcaster Nick Jones speak about the international solidarity which flourished during the miners’ strike against pit closures of 1984-5.
